farm, Barking Fox Guest House is located
45 minutes from Asheville North Carolina (home of the Biltmore Estate)
and 40 minutes from Greenville, South Carolina.
Guests have remarked time
and time again how the ambiance of the farm reminds them of Old Virginia.
The peaceful and tranquil feeling from watching horses graze simply
overtakes you and lets the fast paced and stressful world fade away.
The pristine guest houses
are tastefully decorated with antiques. Chandeliers, large crown molding
and 11 foot ceilings give a wonderful atmosphere of luxury and romance.
Relax at the end of the day in the whirlpool tub or prepare a home cooked
meal in the kitchen with granite counter tops.
When you arrive you will be
greeted with complimentary wine, cheese and crackers. For breakfast the
refrigerator has milk, eggs and juice. The baked goods that we serve are
from an incredible local bakery, One North Trade in Tryon, NC. All the
baked goods are made purely from scratch with all natural quality
ingredients. They are baked in small batches to insure freshness. There
are temptations such as Sweet Potato Pecan, Orange Cranberry, Walnut Fig,
Blueberry Banana and Apple Loaves and more as well as the most delicious
Cinnamon Swirl Coffee cake ever !
The doggie traveler isn't forgotten either. Dog biscuits are waiting as
well as a very cushy doggy bed.
Upon your departure you are
invited to take a horseshoe with you for luck and to remember your stay
with us.
Because our first guest
house has been so well received, we now have two guest houses.
Each cottage contains a bedroom with Queen sized bed, bathroom with
whirlpool tub, fully equipped kitchen and living
room. In addition the new guest house has it's own private deck overlooking one of
the pastures.
A
little about how our Guest House came about.
Just before Christmas over
a year ago, the Foothills Equestrian Nature Center asked us if they
could include our barn and guest facilities on their charity barn tour. We
immediately agreed! There were eight hundred and twenty people that came
to see our farm and the five others on the tour.
After the tour we got so
many calls from people that wanted their visitors to stay with us, that we decided
to open the Guest House to the public. When we traveled we always included our canine
family members. We found it especially difficult to find a facility that excepts
large dogs. Our largest is a Great Dane, so it was decided that our
Guest House would have to be dog friendly.
If you enjoy antiquing this is the area
for you. Start in quaint downtown Landrum where there are too many
antique shops to list. It is a good idea to park at one end of town
and walk so as not to miss a treasure nestled in one of the shops.
Be sure to stop at Fox Hollow Antique Shop, where I sell my paintings
on aged fence boards from our farm. Next turn right to travel north on Hwy.176 ( Howard St.) toward the
historic town of Tryon, NC.
Next stop at the Down
To Earth Garden Center with a marvelous Christmas Shop, featuring
many horse and dog Christmas ornaments. Proceeding a short distance
north you will come to two Antique Malls one on either side of the
road. Next you will arrive in Tryon where there are also
interesting shops. After you pass these
wonderful shops and continue north you will pass Pearson Falls on the
left. The
falls are quite beautiful and open to the public.
Then of course if you travel further north you will
reach Saluda, NC. Saluda is a quaint town that takes you back in
time with it's many shops and restaurants. Continuing on you will
come to Hendersonville, NC, which is brimming with many quality
antique shops, as well as Needful Things, a very large antique mall. Definitely a must see.
Then of course if you travel further north you reach Asheville and the
fabulous Biltmore Estate.
At the end of the day you
you can return to Barking Fox Farm Guest House to again relax and enjoy
farm life with horses and serenity.
FENCE (Foothills Equestrian Nature Center) is
a 5 minute walk or 2 minute car ride away from Barking Fox Farm. It's a wonderful place to walk your
dogs on their beautiful trails. Another nearby trail system is the Blue Wall
Passage of the Palmetto Trail and it's only a
few minutes from the farm. This is a very "doggy friendly" area.
